What is the SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC)?
The SSI Instructor Training Course is the next step in your professional diving journey after becoming a Divemaster.
During the programme, you'll develop the knowledge, teaching techniques and practical skills needed to train and certify new scuba divers.
The training is divided into three main stages:
- Preparation: Two days dedicated to getting ready for your Instructor Training Course.
- Instructor Training Course (ITC): 10 days of an intensive training covering dive theory, teaching techniques, classroom presentations, confined water sessions and open water teaching skills.
- Instructor Evaluation (IE): The final evaluation conducted by SSI in two days, where you'll demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to become an SSI Open Water Instructor.
Once you've successfully completed the programme and passed your Instructor Evaluation, you'll be ready to take the next step in your professional diving career!
Meet your SSI Instructor Trainer: Sergi
Behind every great dive instructor is someone who helped them get there. At Gili Divers, that person is Sergi, our dedicated SSI Instructor Trainer and Head of the Professional Department.
Originally from Barcelona, Sergi traded a career in engineering for a life exploring the underwater world. His professional diving journey began in Koh Tao, Thailand, where he gained extensive experience as both a scuba diving instructor and Dive Centre Manager at one of Southeast Asia's largest SSI dive centres.
After teaching and certifying over 1,000 students, Sergi decided to take his passion for diving education one step further: training the next generation of scuba diving instructors.
Also a qualified Technical Diving Instructor, Sergi brings a wealth of experience, attention to detail and a calm, patient approach to every training session.
His philosophy? Helping each candidate develop not only the knowledge and practical skills needed to pass the Instructor Evaluation, but also the confidence to become a capable, independent and responsible dive instructor.
Throughout your ITC, Sergi provides personalised feedback, practical guidance and plenty of encouragement. And with small training groups, there's always time to ask questions, practise your skills and work on areas where you need a little extra support.

How much does the SSI Instructor Training Course cost?
Investing in your instructor certification is an exciting step towards a professional diving career.
The total price of our SSI Instructor Training Course is IDR 28,000,000, which includes:
- Instructor Training Course (ITC): IDR 21,000,000
- SSI ITC e-learning materials: IDR 7,000,000
Additional fees payable directly to SSI
The following fees are not included in the ITC package price:
- Instructor Evaluation (IE) Fee: €550
- Annual SSI Professional Membership Fee: €100 (if not already an active SSI Professional Member)
What are the prerequisites for the SSI ITC?
Before enrolling in the SSI Instructor Training Course, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Hold a recognised Divemaster certification.
- Have completed at least 75 logged dives.
